SUMMARY:School Supply Distribution
DESCRIPTION:La Puente is meeting the needs of K-12 students across the rural areas of San Luis Valley (SLV) by providing them with school supplies for the 2024-2025 school year. \nHistorically\, La Puente has held a backpack distribution outside of our three Rainbow’s End Thrift Stores. We found this wasn’t meeting the true needs of the K-12 students in the SLV in underserved counties and school districts. This year we are focusing on reaching out to the most rural counties across the SLV\, where students have access to supplies that will help ensure their success for the school year ahead of them. \nThis year we will be reaching Moffat\, Fort Garland\, Crestone\, Monte Vista\, Antonito\, and San Luis. \n\nAntonito Schools—Scheduled for distribution on July 29th at the school 11 am to 3 pm.\n\n13099 Co Rd G\, Antonito\, CO 81120\n\n\nSan Luis—July 30th\, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at American Legion Post\n\n142 302 4th Street\, San Luis\n\n\nSierra Grande School—July 30\, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.\nMonte Vista School—July 31st from 9 am to 1 pm at\n\nMonte Vista Elementary School 545 2nd Ave. Monte Vista\n\n\nSangre de Cristo—July 31st from 3 to 6 pm\n\n8751 Lane 7 North Mosca\n\n\nCrestone and Moffat will distribute along with what they are collecting.\n\nDay of School:\n\nCrestone: TBD\nMoffat: August 12th\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information or questions please contact Laura Fierce at (719) 589-5909 ext. 253 or email at community.edu@lapuente.net \nThis event is brought about with La Puente’s Adelante Family Resource Center. Adelante promotes the empowerment and stabilization of families. Adelante-supported families\, are offered individualized assistance in the navigation of resources that will help families set and reach their goals. Services include assistance with housing\, case management\, referrals\, improved access to counseling\, and family advocacy. Through supporting families as they seek to improve their quality of life and achieve a healthy interdependence\, Adelante seeks to be a resource center for all families who wish to flourish\, especially for those who need a bit of extra support to make their dreams a reality.

SUMMARY:2025-2026 School Supply Drive
DESCRIPTION:Adelante Family Resource Center\, a program of La Puente\, is meeting the needs of PreK-12th Grade students across rural areas of San Luis Valley (SLV) by providing them with school supplies for the 2025-2026 school year. \nHistorically\, La Puente held a backpack distribution outside of our three Rainbow’s End Thrift Stores. We found this wasn’t meeting the true needs of the K-12 students in the SLV in rural counties and school districts. \nLast year\, we began reaching out to the most rural counties across the SLV\, where students have access to supplies that will help ensure their success for the school year ahead of them. Partnering with 7 different school districts across the SLV\, we successfully distributed 15\,000 school items (not including pens and pencils) to help set up 1\,356 PreK-12th Grade students up for success! \nWe anticipate increased need this year as three additional school districts have already signed up as of April to participate in the 2025 Distribution. Surveyed teachers in the San Luis Valley have shared their concerns about covering supply gaps\, which are often paid for out of pocket. We at Adelante Family Resource Center are actively contacting local schools\, identifying which districts have families with the most need\, consulting schools’ supplies lists\, surveying teachers\, and ordering supplies that specifically meet grade requirements. Our goal is to be strategic in the ways that we supplement students’ school supplies to offset some of the burden carried by families and teachers. Because we buy in bulk\, we are able to spend on average $20 per child to cover most of their basic school supplies that would otherwise cost families $40+ per child if they went to a superstore on their own. \nAs with last year’s event\, our staff and volunteers will host the distribution at different sites across the SLV to promote accessibility. Supplies will be organized so that students can choose their own grade-specific supplies. Last year\, one second-grader left with a backpack full of everything pink\, from pencil sharpeners to scissors to notebooks! A family with 2 school-aged children shared\, “Every little bit helps” while another caregiver praised the individualized attention staff and volunteers gave his children\, saying\, “They talked to each child like it matters. And having options to choose from is great!” \nFor more information or questions please contact Adelante’s Director\, Tara Bay\, at director.adelante@lapuente.net \nIf you are interested in giving please fill out the form below: \nFill out my LGL Form!\n \nThis event is brought about with La Puente’s Adelante Family Resource Center. For the School Supply Drive\, Adelante partners with SLV Community Solutions\, local organizations\, school districts\, and teachers to best serve students in the SLV! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway 2025
DESCRIPTION:Leading up to Thanksgiving Day\, the Food Bank Network of the San Luis Valley will be giving out 800 Thanksgiving boxes filled with a whole frozen turkey\, stuffing\, canned pumpkin pie filling\, a variety of canned goods\, and fresh carrots\, potatoes\, and onions. \nThis year\, rising costs of groceries and other necessities have hit our clients hard\, and we’ve seen our service numbers increase across our pantries…for reference\, from 2022-2023 about 9\,000 folks used our Network within the year but last year from 2023-2024\, over 12\,000 individuals relied on the Network.  As inflation rises\, our clients’ dollars don’t go as far as they once did. For some\, the extra cost of a Thanksgiving meal isn’t feasible. \nAt the cost of $32.45\, you can ensure that one family who otherwise could not afford a Thanksgiving meal can celebrate with their loved ones and create meaningful traditions this holiday season.  \nTo donate a Thanksgiving meal\, you can: \n\nsend a check with “Food Bank Thanksgiving Drive” in the memo to 802 State Ave\, Alamosa\, CO 81101\ndonate online using a credit or debit card below!\n\n  \nSpread the Joy of Thanksgiving! \nFill out my LGL Form!\n \nIf you have any questions\, please get in touch with Annalise Baer by calling the Alamosa Food Bank at 719-589-4567 ext. 101 or by emailing director.foodbank@lapuente.net.

No RSVP is needed to attend. So come and bring a friend\, neighbor\, or stranger! \nWhat: Last year we were incredibly honored that over 250 people chose to spend Thanksgiving Day with us. Plates were piled high with turkey\, mashed potatoes\, stuffing\, casseroles\, and pies prepared and donated by members of our community. Most importantly\, guests who would have otherwise spent the holiday alone expressed gratitude for being able to connect with neighbors and leave with a deeper sense of belonging. We all enjoyed some live music performed by community members\, as well as the interactive “gratitude activity wall.” \n\n  \nWANT TO HELP OUT? This event is for the community and by the community! There are several ways to contribute to making this event possible. \n\nVolunteer: There are several different volunteer roles the day of\, from serving food to cleaning up. If you are able to spare an hour or two on Thanksgiving Day (or if you can help with setup and cooking the days leading up to Thanksgiving)\, please sign up for a time slot using this Thanksgiving Volunteer Form.\nBring Food: When you are doing your own Thanksgiving shopping and cooking\, consider making a little extra for La Puente’s Thanksgiving meal\, which is a potluck style. We are in need of turkeys\, pies\, stuffing\, casseroles\, and other staple holiday side dishes. If you aren’t able to make a full dish\, no worries! Consider dropping off a can of cranberry sauce or some whipped cream! A quick way to sign up to bring food is to use this Food Donation Form.\nFinancially Give: If you aren’t able to donate food\, we invite you to make a financial contribution to help our staff make sure there is enough food to go around! To mail in a check\, make it out to La Puente (PO Box 1235\, Alamosa\, CO 81101) with the memo “Community Thanksgiving Meal” or give a financial gift using the form below!\n\nContact Jade at volunteers@lapuente.net for more information about the event and/or to sign up to help!  \n  \nFill out my LGL Form!
